On the 7th of February, the largest social media platform in the world, Facebook, was victim to a cyber-attack when its official twitter and Instagram account were hacked by a hacker group known as OurMine. This was soon rectified by the online networking giant’s technical team.
“Hi, we are OurMine. Well, even Facebook is hackable but at least their security is better than Twitter.” These were the quotations of the seemingly confident hacker group whose intentions on record are only to improve web security. They also publicly shared the link to their website for web security solutions. “ourmine.org”
This was not the first case where these high-profile group of hacker’s names surfaced on various articles and blogs. They previously hacked the official account of NFL along with several teams.
This Dubai based group have been showing notorious traits all this time but thankfully for the victims, are yet to show any ill-intensions.
This rather unconventional method of advertisement has caught the eye of many people around the world including celebrities and famous CEOs.
This series of events briefly led to certain questions being imposed to the security of twitter. In their own defence twitter also released an official statement saying, “As soon as we were made aware of the issue, we locked the compromised accounts and are working closely with our partners at Facebook to restore them,”
Facebook has already been subject to a lot of speculation regarding the security of its own users and although technically, this was an attack on twitter and Instagram, Facebook remained at the centre of another mild controversy.
