Check point Research, a notable name in the market research space recently found out several security flaws in popular dating platform OkCupid. The security breach could’ve potentially threatened data of more than 50 million OkCupid users.
The potential security breach could’ve made information public like sexual orientation, profile details, personal messages, private messages.
After Check Point Research shared details about the potential security breach with OkCupid team, a solution was deployed immediately and it was applied on both the OkCupid website and App in 48 hours.
“Not a single user was impacted by the potential vulnerability on OkCupid, and we were able to fix it within 48 hours. We’re grateful to partners like Check Point who with OkCupid, put the safety and privacy of our users first,” the dating app said in a statement.
According to researchers at Check point Research, a malicious link is made by the hackers to carry out an attack with payload and then send to a user, who has no idea about what is happening.
The same link will be also published on public from by the hacker and once the link is clicked on by the user, the malicious code is executed and thus results in escapement of data.
Although, the problem is solved but still overall situation can become a lesson for not just OkCupid but all the dating platforms.
